RWT initially stood for Red Winemaking Trial, representing Penfolds’ exploration into the potential of its blends, but today, the RTW is a staple in the label’s offerings. Made from Barossa Valley Shiraz grapes selected for their aromatic qualities, fine tannins and plush texture, the blend is then aged in French oak, which gives a subtle character. The RWT Bin 798 blends this spicy note with blue fruits, an earthy depth, a richness from espresso and chocolate and a unique hint of rhubarb and fermented tea. Flavours of red berries are apparent on the palate, complimenting the savouriness of fennel and a complex structure.
