Château Cheval Blanc is a highly lauded wine estate in the Saint-Émilion region of north-east Bordeaux. Most vineyards found here are either clay- or gravel-based, but this one is unique in having a patchwork of two different types of soils. Each soil leads to a different expression, with some providing velvety tannins and others more aromatic. This 1996 is a wonderful amalgamation, fusing an intense bouquet with a noticeably acidic palate.
