Lladró Porcelain Lover's Eyes Trinket Tray (32cm)

When Maria Anne Fitzherbert opened a love letter from her admirer Prince George of Wales in 1785, the last thing she expected was to find an eye gazing back at her. The prince had famously fallen in love with her, but their differences in politics were quickly met with the Crown's disapproval. Steadfast in his convictions, he was determined to marry her anyway and – in a final attempt to secure her hand – wrote her a letter containing a rare and whimsical token of love: a miniature painting of his own eye. ‌ The Lover’s Eye trinket tray from Lladró immortalises this unique moment in porcelain, showcasing a glazed reimagining of the original painting, surrounded by faux pearls and gold beading.
