Drôle de Monsieur is proudly French, but don’t assume that means Parisian: the brand’s slogan, ‘Not from Paris Madame’, serves as a reminder of its humble beginnings in Dijon. Founders and self-made designers Dany Dos Santos and Maxime Schwab fashioned their own menswear vision, with their printed Drôle de Monsieur T-shirts and sporty bombers now claiming legions of fans. After picking the name Drôle de Monsieur – which roughly translates to ‘funny/strange gentleman’ – Dany and Maxime began crafting distinct, wearable pieces inspired by both the vibrance of the ‘70s (evident in patterned Drôle de Monsieur polos and fleeces) and the hip-hop culture of the ‘90s, seen in the oversized fits of baggy Drôle de Monsieur jeans, sweatpants and parkas.
