A tiny property in the Pomerol district of Bordeaux, Le Pin is south-facing and sits on well-drained gravel and sand soils that give extremely low yields. This doesn’t reflect the quality of its wine, though; quite the opposite, in fact. This 2005 Merlot, for instance, opens with notes of caramel, coconut, coffee and sweet black cherry, while the flamboyance of ripe back fruits, plum and roasted herbs mingle on the tongue for a spectacular vintage.
