Schiaparelli

Elsa Schiaparelli once joked that “no one knows how to say Schiaparelli, but everyone knows what it means.” Established in Paris in 1927, the Maison became a leader in haute couture within the decade, bridging the worlds of art and fashion through groundbreaking trompe l’oeil knits, surrealist dresses and resplendent jewellery. Collaborations with the likes of Dalí, Cocteau and Man Ray naturally followed, though it was the founder’s unique vision that left its mark on the fashion world. Now, Daniel Roseberry’s revival of the Maison honours Elsa’s influence in its first ready-to-wear collection. Schiaparelli dresses are designed with House codes in mind – think anatomical references, keyhole icons and tape measure details – while jackets and trompe l’oeil knitwear honour the Maison’s original designs. To finish, Schiaparelli jewellery is eclectic yet unmistakable, with powerful shapes and irreverent touches that are mirrored in its collection of bags.
