That Frédéric Malle was raised by a family of artists and perfumers and is today considered an olfactory vanguard is no coincidence: the two are inextricably linked. Growing up in an apartment that once belonged to the Guerlains, his late grandfather famously created the fragrance division for one of Paris’ most revered fashion houses. Born from a desire to break free from the homogenous scents of the late Nineties, Frédéric Malle founded his namesake label in 2000, working collaboratively with esteemed noses to restore the perfume industry to its former prestige. Referring to himself as an ‘editor’ and his skilled team as ‘authors’, always encouraging them to transcend their creative boundaries, the contents of each unassuming flacon are nothing short of a masterpiece.
