Born to Taiwanese-American parents in San Francisco, Alexander Wang moved to New York at the age of 19 to attend the famed Parsons School of Design, before setting up his own label in 2005. The collection began predominately in knitwear, represented by six unisex silhouettes. By 2007, it had evolved into a full womenswear line and the collection was shown for the first time on the runway for Autumn/Winter 2007. In 2008, Wang was declared the winner of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award. Now a household name, Alexander Wang draws inspiration from the urban cityscape and sportswear, and creates a refined yet grunge-cool sensibility via sleek tailoring, directional casualwear and statement accessories.
