The Balvenie Distillery in Banffshire is the last distillery in Scotland to still practice the traditional core crafts of whisky production, from growing its own barely to employing a coppersmith to pass skills down the generations. Its 16-Year-Old French Oak single malt is one of its finest offerings, defined by maturation in two different casks. The first – American oak casks – infuse sweet vanilla spice and warm honey notes into the whisky, while the second – French Pineau fortified wine casks – energise it with notes of grapefruit, geranium and ginger.
